Federal Cabinet to issue funds for HEC

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet on Thursday decided to release some funds to the Higher Education Commission (HEC), partially fulfilling the demands of protesting universities.
According to sources, the Federal Cabinet has agreed on a basic fund formula for universities, under which Rs. 15 billion will be allocated to HEC.
The cabinet also promised to provide financial assistance to universities which are unable to cater to the 50 percent increase in teachers’ salaries as announced by the government in this year’s budget.
More than 72 public sector universities resorted to boycotting academic activities and staged rallies on Wednesday to protest against fund reduction. SAMAA
